The Sainsbury’s gift card team is responsible for delivering market leading gift card and multi-retail voucher programmes for all the Sainsbury’s group brands. We are operating in a dynamic, fast paced market and our multi-brand gift card offer give us the potential to offer something truly distinctive to our customers.  

As the Strategy Manager you will lead the strategy, change and insight team to define the gift card strategy and roadmap to deliver. You are responsible for ensuring our gift card strategy is ambitious, achievable, customer centric and market leading. The strategy manager will have great relationships in the wider business and externally to support the programme to operate at pace and deliver commercial targets.   

This is a great opportunity for someone with commercial experience to work within a fast-paced, commercial, challenging and fun environment, leading a team to define and deliver a clear commercial growth strategy.  

What I need to do  

  • Deliver the Gift Card market & customer strategy  
  • Development of business strategy through the provision of accurate market data, analysis, modelling and recommendations 
  • Provide insightful research summaries on target markets and customer segments to identify prospective customer opportunities  
  • Analyse and evaluate potential customer opportunities using defined prioritisation criteria  
  •  Provides high quality business case recommendations/presentations, with stakeholder input 
  • Responsible for interacting with support teams across the business e.g. Payments, Product and Engineering to gather necessary inputs and ongoing support 
  • Stays up to date with market trends and developments, encouraging the use of customer and competitor insight across the team 
  • Liaise with all internal stakeholders, to ensure the project vision is delivered and promote the gift card product and strategy internally 
  • Responsible for maintaining and reporting on status of strategy objectives and customer leads 

Lead your team effectively 

  • Responsible for the change, implementation and insight colleagues within the gift card team and inspires team to deliver excellence and with pace 
  • Give clear direction to their team so each colleague understands their role to play in delivering great outcomes, ensuring they meet the agreed business requirements within time, cost and quality constraints 
  • Agrees and articulates detailed strategy objectives, scope and approach with the gift card team 
  • Manages workload effectively always prioritising and reprioritising to achieve commercial outcomes. 
  • Responsible for the delivery of the project to meet the agreed business requirements within time, cost and quality constraints 
  • Reports progress effectively and concisely, identifying key issues and actions to achieve project targets 
  • Evaluates the effect change has on the business, keeping customers and colleagues at the heart of everything we do 

What I need to know  

  • Commercial acumen – you will be responsible for owning and evolving the gift card strategy so confidence and experience in this area is a must 
  • Financial competence - ability to analyse and understand financial information and to produce forecasts and valuations of options  
  • Gift Card market knowledge – an understanding of the UK gift card market would be advantageous  
  • Strong strategic planning skills - ability to identify strategic issues, synthesise information and present recommendations in a structured way 
  • Experience of working with big data and complex challenges of balancing customer, colleague and business benefits - You’ll think broadly, find links and relationships across complex business problems and produce innovative and pragmatic solutions to manage and deliver change 
  • Good market awareness – B2B and B2C retail market knowledge and familiar with economic, financial, competitor and customer information  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support decision making 
  • Good project management skills - independent thinking, goal setting, results orientation 
  • Team working skills - must be comfortable working in cross functional teams 
  • Strong communication skills with ability to build and manage relationships (internally and externally), actively listening to stakeholders, role modelling our values and leading the teams towards our vision 
  • Proficient in excel modelling skills and Powerpoint
